GOVERNMENT RELOCATION: MAKING IT HAPPEN
I am delighted to invite you to a major conference that OGC is holding on Tuesday 18 January 2005 at Excel, London Docklands, in conjunction with Cabinet Office, Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Land Securities. This conference will explore, in a very practical way, how Departments and other Government organisations will implement their relocation commitments that have been announced in the recent Spending Review.
This will be a significant opportunity to hear from key decision makers from the main central stakeholders – OGC, Cabinet Office and ODPM – about how the Lyons review implementation is being taken forward and how the property, effective use of workspace, workforce and regional regeneration issues are being addressed. Land Securities, as Government’s biggest landlord, will give an industry perspective of the implementation agenda and issues.
The conference will be chaired by Ian Henderson, former Chief Executive Land Securities. The keynote address will be given by John Oughton, Chief Executive OGC, who has personal responsibility for implementing the Efficiency Programme, of which Lyons implementation is part.
The afternoon is devoted to practical workshops, with case studies, on the main issues Departments, other Government organisations and others in the public and private sector will need to address in achieving their relocation commitments. These include: planning for achieving relocation and effective use of workspace, building on OGC’s/DEGW’s recent publication “Working Without Walls”.
I want the day to be memorable and for each delegate to take away at least two or three practical lessons that they can start to apply quickly in order to achieve the agenda that Sir Michael Lyons has set out and which the Government has accepted. I believe that these issues will be relevant to you and that you will make a good contribution to the day. I do hope that you will be able to join me.
