"We won't make much progress on delivering on the Government's public service agenda if we don't show some pretty clear leadership….like a CEO, a leader in the public sector has three broad tasks: 1: To make sure the organisation is running effectively & efficiently; 2: To develop its capacity to operate effectively & efficiently in the future; 3: To define its culture & to maintain its reputation & values…The move to more personalised public services & greater diversity of provision is a big agenda for change. We need strong leadership at every level of public service to turn it into a reality. We need different kinds of leaders from those we've had in the past." - Sir Gus O'Donnell: Cabinet Secretary & Head Of The Civil Service.

The UK public sector is today undergoing change & reform on an unprecedented scale. Greater efficiency is demanded from all areas & there is intense political pressure to meet an increasing number of targets. Public expectation of both standards & methods of public service delivery has never been higher & is fuelled by our experiences of the best service from the commercial world. Collaborative / partnership working across traditional boundaries will become the norm, inevitably requiring new skills from 'collaborative leaders'. The recruitment, development & retention of leaders at all levels within public service organisations is seen as being central to meeting these demands & expectations.

The annual Public Service Leadership conference & exhibition – the largest pan-public service leadership event of the year - brings together practitioners in leadership development from across public service, along with senior academics of international renown. Via plenary & work sessions, delegates have the opportunity to network with & learn from their peers in a wide range of public service organisations & from the cream of private & public sector service providers & advisers.
