    Benchmarking property performance can be somewhat of a minefield. Many of the areas that are easy to measure aren’t in fact that important, and the ones that are important, are of course the difficult ones to visualise. In this session David Bentley will attempt to guide us through this minefield based on his own extensive experience of developing performance indicators within the Local Government field throughout the UK. He currently chairs a number of benchmarking clubs including one made up of over half of the Scottish Local Authorities.

    Much has been made of the sustainability agenda and its application to property estates. Current approaches use environmental benchmarks or tools such as BREEAM, however, few cover all aspects of an organisation at an individual property level. This session will introduce a new approach covering building performance (including EPCs), carbon footprint, operations, culture and socio-economic impacts. Its output allows consistent comparison of buildings, enables performance improvement and will help public sector organisations to really demonstrate improved sustainability.
