Public Service People Management 2005

21st / 22nd September

It is widely acknowledged that people are our public service organisations' most valuable asset.

Day-to-day responsibility for managing these millions of public servants falls on the shoulders of a diverse range of individual public service professionals, from HR, personnel, administration, leadership, training, organisational change & development, project management, business planning, line management & scores of other disciplines.

To focus on the challenges facing this diverse group of 'people managers', the inaugural PSPM event, in autumn 2004, brought together more than 1,000 representatives on each day from organisations providing public services across the UK.

For 2005 - via a specially-themed conference agenda (compiled in consultation with our Public Service Stakeholder Advisory Panel) & informative on-site exhibition – PSPM Expo will again address many of the key issues facing our 21st century public services, via:

  • Conference Stream A: Change: Evolution Or Revolution?
  • Conference Stream B: Working Together: People In Effective Organisations;
  • Conference Stream C: Diversity;
  • Conference Stream D: Innovation & Creativity;
  • Conference Stream E: Skills, Learning & Career Development;
  • Conference Stream F: Supporting Staff.

PSPM delegates may choose to attend up to eight of the 40 conference work sessions & legal seminars in these six streams.

Additionally, this two-day event features (on Wednesday 21st September) an all-morning Plenary Session, incorporating a distinguished line-up of speakers, each with their own specialist knowledge, experience & personal perspective on the issues to be addressed at PSPM 2005.

Confirmed Plenary Session speakers are:

  • Lord Richard Wilson – President: CIPD (Chartered Institute Of Personnel & Development) & former Cabinet Secretary / Head Of The UK Civil Service
  • Martin Tiplady - Director Of Human Resources: Metropolitan Police
  • Brendan Barber – General Secretary: TUC (Trades Union Congress)
