Protecting Scottish Public Service Workers
Wednesday 27th February 2008 - Radisson SAS Glasgow
For far too long, workers serving the public across Scotland have been subject to high levels of physical assault, verbal abuse, &, increasingly, non-verbal abuse (internet, text, email etc) while in the pursuit of their normal daily duties.
This has afflicted customer & client-facing staff across a wide range of sectors, including:
- Central & local government (job centres, schools, housing offices etc);
- Emergency services (NHS, Police & Fire);
- Public transport (bus, rail & aviation etc);
- Retail & leisure (pubs, bars, clubs & betting shops etc);
- Voluntary sector (within a social & care context)
Through legislation & campaign activity, much has been achieved in both encouraging workers & employers to report & address abuse where it occurs; & raising public awareness of the unacceptability of abusing those serving the public.
The new Scotland Action Plan On Health & Safety - announced by the Scottish Executive in spring 2007 - makes a key commitment to "extending the provision of specific information & guidance on the protection of public service workers."
This CPD-certified national conference, at Radisson SAS Glasgow, on Wednesday 27th February 2008 will address a number of key concerns facing all customer-facing organisations across Scotland.
Representatives of major high street brand names (including HBOS & McDonalds) social institutions (including the Church of Scotland & Salvation Army) & leading air, rail & road transport operators, will be joined at the event by management from NHS, central & local government, police, fire, college, university, trade union & voluntary organisations.
